Throughout the next few weeks, we will be preparing your child for the new LEAP test format. This April, our students will be taking several online versions of the state LEAP test - English Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies - along with the paper version of the science test. To better prepare your child for the challenges ahead, we will be increasing our test preparations.
We will be administering a practice LEAP test the week of January 23rd to pinpoint the exact needs of our students and to develop a plan to provide students with extra help and assistance during PE and after school tutoring. As a result, at the end of the month, we will begin pulling students during their PE time to practice math skills and to assist them with English language arts, social studies and science. In addition, teachers will be setting up parent teacher conferences to discuss student progress and to develop a plan to help your child.
It is not too late to join our 8th grade tutoring program aimed at increasing student achievement in Language Arts and in math. We are providing bus transportation for students who remain after school to participate. We strongly encourage struggling and failing 8th grade students to attend. Our after school program will take the place of summer school again this year. For our higher achieving students, we are planning a math enrichment program beginning in February. A letter will be going home at the end of January with the details.
Anytime your child needs additional practice, he or she can log onto Achieve 3000 or work on Accelerated Math at home - we are offering incentives/ prizes for those students who have reached particular milestones in each of these programs. We are also rewarding students who are doing well on their district common assessments - students will receive dress down passes and chances to enter into drawings for other prizes.
So again thank you for all of your support. We hope that you and your family had a great holiday season. We look forward to ensuring our students are well prepared for the challenges ahead!
